Cyber Quest District Wide Competition
Cyber Quest is a Competition for G.A.T.E. students that teaches students critical thinking, problem solving, and public speaking. For the competition you have to make and present a multimedia presentation following the guild lines of the topic. The first round is at your school, and the team that wins will move on to the district competition. Each team must have at least 3 students and no more than 4. The topic changes for the district competition. Each school may bring one 3rd-4th grade team, one 5th-6th grade team, and two 7th-8th grade teams. At the district competition there are two rounds. The first round is to determine the teams who will compete in the finals. Each team will be judged by 3 judges, and only the team and the judges are allowed inside the room, there is a viewing room for others who wish to watch the team present.
The first year I did Cyber Quest I was in 6th grade and for the fist round, my team and I made a presentation about technology. The topic for the second round asked us to create a new app, that no one has invented yet, and to explain how to create an app and what an app does. My team made a survey to get ideas from students and teachers on what app to make. In the end we decided to create the GMO-PH Detector, an app that identifies GMOs, Pesticides, and Hormones. It will also tell you if a product is really organic or not. This way you will know what you are eating. our team also won first place at the district competition.
In 7th grade for the first round of Cyber Quest the topic instructed us to plan a one month trip to another country and include all costs, where you were going to go, and where you were going to stay. My team decided to plan a trip to Great Britain. For the second round we were given one hundred million dollars to solve a global problem. We came up with a way to solve the Refugee Crisis by creating The Hope Program, which brings refugees to a safe country, reunites them with family, sends their children to school, gives them a house, gives them a job, and pays their bills for the first year in a new country. The refugees will gradually pay the agency back. Our team won third place at the district competition.
In 8th grade for the first round of Cyber Quest, we had to invent or improve a method of communication and describe the history of communication. My team and I decided to improve the ear telephone device. In the second round, we were asked to create a game that teaches its players how to prepare, survive, and thrive, before, during, and after a natural disaster. Our team decided to create a game to teach others about Hurricanes. Our team won 2nd place at the district wide competition.
